THE YELLOW SIGN

Biography
banjirmusik-Over the last 3 years, progressive death metal act THE YELLOW SIGN has slowly gained acclaim nationwide from both music fans and musicians for their signature sound and live show. The relentlessly DIY band has spread influence throughout the metal community, self-released 2 albums, self-produced music videos, appeared in magazines and toured the US all without label or industry support. Meticulously crafting a duality of devastating heaviness and swirling melodies, with atmosphere and flow unique among their peers THE YELLOW SIGN has put themselves in position to break onto the world stage while keeping true to what fans have loved about them from the beginning. 5 dudes who love pizza, nerd shit and headbanging. In the fall of 2010 we called it quits.
THE YELLOW SIGN is...

"Having been a band for just more than two years THE YELLOW SIGN have put together an impressive resume. Having self released and EP in 2009 and opened for big names like THE FACELESS, PARKWAY DRIVE, and WINDS OF PLAGUE it seems like the rest of the year holds nothing but promise. Despite their epic death metal tunes the boys in TYS keep a positive look on their music. Bassist Mike Bielenda tells us, "We genuinely love metal and i think that our passion for what we write and our live show is something that everyone can enjoy as much as we enjoy playing it." Great attitudes in tow, the band just finished up a mid-west tour and plans to hit the west coast before the year ends : For fans of SUICIDE SILENCE, IMPENDING DOOM and MESHUGGAH" – Jacob Round (Hails & Horns Magazine)

“These guys are ready for the future: With riffs, heavy as a sledgehammer, melodies, that make one's blood run cold, and a thick dark atmosphere ANCIENT makes its mark. In doing so The Yellow Sign grace the different genres and mix everything together to a massive force of Death-, Doom-, Modern- & Progressive Metal. Furthermore every song has a tang of epic, but the quintet never loses its groove. And the groove makes quite a few things tremble, when the duly down tuned guitars begin to roar - due to the very good production your own four walls will shake. Added is an evil growling voice. All round an excellent piece of Death Metal. Try it!” – Florian Krapp (Metal Hammer Magazine - Germany)

“These guys are absolutely talented. They mildly remind me of Job For A Cowboy due to an extremely talented range on vocals. The drummer in this band is probably the best drummer I have seen live. He was absolutely out of control and has a very unique style. They played one hell of a set and really got a lot of crowd participation. They are fantastic performing live; they move more then any other band that I have seen.” – Danny Weiss (Under The Gun Review)

“During my tenure here I've learned to be wary about how bands describe themselves. I've had bands bigging themselves up as progressive death and been presented with stuff even Miley Cyrus would call too pussy. So, I wasn't expecting much from The Yellow Sign, who described themselves as such. And what did I get for my ennui? A giant slap in my stupid face. The Yellow Sign ARE progressive death metal, and bloody good whilst they're at it. Some of it recalls the monstrously low tuned _Nothing_ by Meshuggah… The Yellow Sign are at their most interesting when they're being slow and sludgy with some squalling guitar going off in the background. They're nicely atmospheric in a way many of their peers fail to be. Even some of the more melodic moments are alright. Also in their favor is a production job so ludicrously chunky and heavy, that I actually spilled my tea when a new track popped on.” - Daniel Cairns (Chronicles of Chaos)

“Bringing their own breed of brutality to the table is Michigan’s own The Yellow Sign with self-released EP, Ancient. These guys mean business, delivering crushing guitar riffs and seriously brutal vocals with such an impact you won’t know what hit you. Ancient has a dark, gloomy atmosphere with progressive elements and melodies that run somewhat in the background but ensure this is not just another simple death metal album. As they experiment with and refine their technique we can surely expect good things from The Yellow Sign in the future. For a band just appearing on the scene these guys have already been proving themselves worthy and have shared the stage with such notable bands as The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, and Suicide Silence. If you’re a fan of death metal, keep an eye on this band.” - Leanne (Metal Pulse)..

“Ancient a word with a wide range of meanings behind it; it can be used for book titles, television shows, radio reports, you name it but did you know that it was recently used as the name of an EP? That’s absolutely right, Ancient, is the name of the five track EP by death metallers The Yellow Sign, a brutalizing force of nature just eager to unleash upon its all mighty prey, you, the listener. These deathcore break-through musicians can easily befriend you or grow hatred upon your soul shoving their well crafted music down your throat. With its fast paced guitar riffs, your throat will suffer from internal bleeding instantly. The opening tune Silence indeed breaks the silence in a micro second. Having adrenaline racing drum beats, ripping guitar solos and breaking riffs, you won’t know what hit your ear drums except utter destruction. The vocal work on the opener is well sung not missing a note; growling until their throat is sore and bleeding with pleasure. Juggernaut's repeating drum tone sends an echoing force field ringing in your ears throughout the entire piece allowing the guitars and vocals to take over and break down the music for you nice and easy as the music builds up to an finale that will have you crapping your pants. The rest of Ancient is as it claims to be called with nothing but pure aggressive music with an attitude to match - nothing but pure energy with fast edged force that pounds and beats itself hard into your skull, letting the blood pour out all over the ground spelling the words that are The Yellow Sign. Fans of The Red Chord, Abigail Williams, and All Shall Perish will fall head over heels for these deathcore metallers just wanting to taste your first droplet of blood.” – Natalie Perez (Metal Forge)

“The Yellow Signs “Ancient” showcases a band with a leaning toward the DM extremities of Oceano. What’s different in comparison are the more progressive, melodic and doom sections that unfortunately don’t quite make the focus of the record. The tracks themselves having the above in their undercurrent are excellently put together that tether the drum and riff work subliminally… The tracks on display through the EP are no-frills, hands-down worth departing every penny for.” – Andrew Danso (Metal Mayhem)

“Tyler Lamoreaux (vocals) and Nate Wittock (drums) lead a progressive death metal band from Michigan that is already running for best breakthrough of the year, together with Xerath. The difference between the two bands is mainly that The Yellow Sign does not belong to Candlelight Records, but many labels would challenge to sign them. In their case, references to Job For A Cowboy, Whitechapel and Meshuggah are visible, but they have already a compositive personality at great levels and you can never think of facing a surrogate band. The five tracks in the self-released mini have their own soul, they balance between death and grindcore, they can cause pain but even see further, and find in the horizon what the future will bring. If you're fanatics of extreme metal and recently you liked Augury, Oceano and Iwrestledabearonce, give them a chance and you won't regret it.” – Lorenzo Becciani (Dagheisha)

“Named after a glyph from Robert Chambers's book "The King In Yellow" have the five men of The Yellow Sign from the beautiful Michigan. Musically, they moved here in Deathcore area on a variety of progressive and technical, who find themselves in an interesting sound that is not yet have any new revolution, however, by experimental passages definitely a certain something. The EP "Ancient" is distinguished not by the beautiful melodies and absolutely innovative, new type of songwriting, but rather by an oppressive atmosphere, a steadily rising tension and clever riffs that just the right moment with a cold feeling of goose bumps over the handset away run. For example, halfway through the opener "Silence" thunders still just pushing double bass attacks and rhythm into it riffs on the handset, which then ripped the next moment, a small number of guitar sounds with the more effective action to generate a cold atmosphere. A similar situation exists with the title song "Ancient" which starts with massive breakdown riffs, constant pressure builds up, which then explodes in a poignant sound storm, which resulted especially from the epic guitar work out. A similar style of this epic sound that arises from the fact that they repeated in quick succession strikes a tone that can also be found in the following song "Heretic", the songwriting is built completely different than its predecessor, so can be found no trace of boredom. In addition, the song white with clever tempo changes from snare blasts up to the slow double bass outro the listener to win over. For the instrumental "Carcosa" is a soundtrack-like piece that voluminous, delivers cleverly staged in drumming on the toms and a perfect blend of acoustic and electronic guitars. Apart from all these subtleties and refinements can be found at The Yellow Sign, however, without more well-known effects such as the breakdown again, which is mainly used in the final song "Juggernaut" feeder and put almost the entire second half of this song into an uncomfortable, oppressive atmosphere. The Yellow Sign Deathcore have not reinvented, but without question, make a very solid work and not be afraid to experiment at times. The epic guitar sound, he knows just when to convince the hit "Ancient" which is reminiscent of the gentlemen of The Contortionist, which seem so dreadful-sounding melody and the brutality is more usually used by Oceano or Impending Doom to come. These five men know their job and do it damn well, brutal breakdowns and furious vocals with poignant atmosphere and slight post-rock influences combine - just listen to the best times, then buy from iTunes or in the tape store. The more one listens to this EP, the better they like it.” – Oliver Held (The Pit Webzine– Germany)
